Janet Lea Witt Council Bluffs, Iowa Obituary

Janet Lea Witt

Janet Witt, age 69, passed away May 5, 2022. She was born January 2, 1953, to the late Junior and Betty (Wright) Bertelsen in Council Bluffs, IA. Janet graduated from Missouri Valley High School with the class of 1971. In May 1974, she married Gail Witt. Together, they established their home in the Beebeetown area and raised three daughters, Rebecca, Rachel, and Elizabeth. Janet loved the Lord, and she loved her family. At church she enjoyed organizing crafts for Vacation Bible School and participating in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League - especially the Chili Cookoff. She enjoyed her time as a school librarian and visiting with people at the BB Mart. She also enjoyed working in the garden and canning her goods. Janet’s life was dedicated to family. She enjoyed family vacations, weekly lunches with her mom and grandma, and shopping with the girls - especially garage sales. The highlight of every week was having Sunday dinner with the whole family. Janet’s real love was spending time with the grandkids and creating theme cakes for their birthdays. The grandkids looked forward to going to Grandma’s for sleepovers, playing cards and board games, making crafts, and learning how to bake and cook from their very own expert in the kitchen. Gail and Janet enjoyed many cups of coffee on the front porch and back deck watching beautiful country sunrises and sunsets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Keith Bertelsen and Ronnie Bertelsen. Janet is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Gail Witt; daughters, Rebecca (Jeff) Bloom, Rachel (Marcel) Kaboré, and Elizabeth (Jarrod) McDonald; siblings, Karen (Keith) Crandall, Kathryn (Larry) John, Gene (Rita) Bertelsen, and Julie (Larry) Walling; 10 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, May 08, 2022. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church LCMS in Honey Creek, on Monday, May 9, 2022. Interment is in the Grange Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Saint John Lutheran Church, or her family will direct a portion to the nurses at the Buffett Cancer Center.
