James Phillips Shipman

James Phillips Shipman passed away peacefully in the George Washington Hospital on May 1st., after suffering a massive heart attack on April 25th.. A native of Washington, D.C. and resident of the Broadmoor for over 20 years he was Jim to everybody. He had a unique, friendly, kind personality. As Manager for over two decades of the former Brookville Supermarket, a neighborhood food store, he was always ready to help make shopping easier for his costumers. One of his outstanding qualities was the generosity that led him to train and eventually hire her as a cashier. He was ready to buy breakfast to the those in need he ran into. During his many Christmas travels to Mexico he always organized gift- giving parties for all of the numerous employees of the time- share beach hotel where he always stayed. Upon his retirement he toured many countries with his wife and shared with her his enjoyment for the movies, his favorite popular music, sports, fishing, politics , opera, ballet, Symphony and piano concerts. He belonged to various Think Tanks where he did not hesitate to participate expressing his views on the subject under discussion. His trips were cultural and adventurous. He received a small commemorative small bronze plaque for climbing the Great Wall of China. People who know him describe him as someone whose bright greeting always lifted the spirit up as he was riding around in his electric scooter. A very happy person by nature, he had a unique gift in communicating with anybody with joy, to help and to guide. He was a people’s man that will be missed. He is survived by his wife Yolanda Kasofsky Shipman
