William "Rick" Long
<p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>William “Rick” Long, age 76, of Cincinnati, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at Centerville Specialty Care.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Rick was born on November 23, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of William “Bill” and Mary (Horstman) Long. He graduated from Moravia High School. On October 5, 1967, Rick joined the United States Army. He served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War, spending a year overseas. On October 4, 1973, Rick was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. </strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Rick was united in marriage to Gordie Jones on August 5, 2000. He was a very loving husband, who supported Gordie immensely. In his free time, Rick enjoyed gambling and making homemade trailers. He loved mowing lawns, and mowed numerous yards in Cincinnati. Rick was also a past member of the Cincinnati City Council for many years. Most importantly, Rick loved spending time with his family and his dog, Ozzie.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Left to honor Rick’s memory are his wife, Gordie Long of Cincinnati; his daughter, Lisa (Larry) Bennett of Purdin, Missouri; his son, Richard Long of Browning, Missouri; his step children, Melinda Thomas of Centerville, Jeff (Angela) Thomas of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Charlie (Kristen) Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri; his brother, Kenny (Judi) Long of Moravia; his sister, Marie Padget of Moravia; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as several extended family members.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Long; and three siblings, Larry Long, Leta Pettibone, and Jay Long.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>Visitation will take place Friday, May 6, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10-11AM. Military Rites will immediately follow the visitation in the parking lot of Lange Funeral Home.
