Karen Irene Wicks, the daughter of Carl and Nellie (Nielsen) Wicks was born August 27, 1947 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa. She died on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at her home in rural Graettinger, Iowa at the age of 74.

She attended kindergarten in rural Graettinger at the Brown Bottom school and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1965. Following high school, Karen lived in Los Angeles area for five years and was employed with Prudential Insurance. She then transferred to Minneapolis area and lived for nine years.

While living in Graettinger, Karen was employed for many years with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department as office manager. She enjoyed shopping and was a world traveler and enjoyed trips to South America, Asia, Europe and many cruises with family and friends. Her favorite destinations were Alaska, Tahiti and Morocco.

She was a life-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.

Left to cherish Karen’s memory are her sister, Carol Wicks of Graettinger; cousin, Bob Callahan and several nieces, nephews, and friends and her beloved pets, Homer Lee and Holle Belle.

She has been preceded in death by her brother Carl (Carol) Wicks, and parents.
