Circe P. Urbanski Obituary

Lawrenceville, NJ - Circe Andrea Urbanski (nee Papageorge), age 75, died from complications of a stroke on, Sunday, May 1, 2022, at her home in the Meadows of Morris Hall. She previously lived in Monroe Township, NJ for fifteen years, and was originally a native of Illinois. Joie de vivre! Is how all of Circe’s friends, colleagues, and relatives will remember her. An adventurer and scholar devoted to the fine arts, classical music, theatre, foreign film, history, and reading, she demonstrated an insatiable thirst for knowledge. All whom knew Circe loved her for her charismatic smile, laughter, joyfulness, sweetness, and genuine kindness. Circe was born in Chicago, Illinois, the first daughter of George Papageorge M.D. and Lucretia Yangas on August 13, 1946. She was raised on the family’s farm and then in the small town of Paris, Illinois until high school graduation. College took her to Chicago, and she graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A. in French which included a year in Paris, France, studying at the Sorbonne. Circe’s first love and passion was the study and practice of the fine arts, including classical piano, drawing, and oil painting. Her interests and study took her to week-long chamber music intensives in Manchester, Vermont to improvisational live music at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Circe never turned away an invitation to an art exhibit, chalking up a record of hundreds of art exhibits in the New York City/Philadelphia art region. One of her most fulfilling adventures and accomplishments was becoming a practicing member of the Brooklyn Museum of Art where she became a student in their highly regarded oil painting classes. Circe’s political activism led her to the Coalition for Peace Action of Princeton, where she was an active and resolute member for 15 years. She was always ready to write a letter, protest, or attend a lobby day. Her religious affiliation was with the Princeton congregation of the United Church of Christ, where she was a devoted member, active participant, and readily made friends. In addition to her sister, Dorcas Tsakiridis, Circe leaves; two nephews: two great-nieces; one great-nephew; her long-time best friend, Tina Xanos and family, including her godson, Ossian, in Illinois; and her many close friends in New Jersey. A Celebration and Thanksgiving of Circe’s Life will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at the Christ Congregation, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ 08542. Circe’s life was not complete without the company of companion cats and dogs. She cared deeply about all animals. Her feline companion animals brought her constant joy and comfort. Donations in Circe’s memory can be made to SAVE - A Friend to Homeless Animals, at 1010 Rt. 601, Skillman, NJ 08558. 609-309-5214 https://savehomelessanimals.org. Circe’s family and friends wish to express their profound gratitude to the staff of the Meadows at Morris Hall for their kindness, compassion, and exemplary care of Circe.
