Donald Slininger

<p>Donald Lee Slininger, 82, of Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at UnityPoint Trinity, Rock Island.</p> <p>Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary &amp; Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2022, at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silvis Masonic Lodge #898.</p> <p>Don was born on January 28, 1940, in Moline, the son of Meredith Evan &ldquo;Jim&rdquo; and Mary Frances (Schmiers) Slininger. He was a U.S. Veteran having served in the Army from 1957-1960. He married Lovena (Wage) Adams on July 14, 1976, in Moline. He was a millwright at the John Deere Foundry for 38 years, retiring in the early 1990&rsquo;s. He also retired from Oscar Meyer and Diamond Cut as a machine repairman.</p> <p>Don was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline and an active member of the Local U.A.W. He was also a member of the East Moline V.F.W. #8890, and Silvis Masonic Lodge #898 AF &amp; AM where he was a former worshipful master. He enjoyed bicycling, riding his motorcycle, and camping. Don went on multiple bus trips over the years. He was always active and enjoyed taekwondo and participated in numerous triathlons. He loved cars, trains, and was a top five dirt bike enduroist in the Quad Cities.</p> <p>He loved helping anyone and everyone and was known as a &ldquo;master fixer&rdquo; of everything. He designed and built parade floats and built an accessible house and car for a handicap couple and through this they became great friends. His family was his everything and he will be greatly missed.</p> <p>Survivors include his wife, Lovena; children, Dion (Darlene) Slininger, Davenport, Donita Slininger, Milan, Ragina Smith, Moline, Kelli (Jason) Ryband, Forest Park, IL, Anthony (Kindra) Slininger, Clinton, IA, and Daniel (Carmen) Slininger, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Benjamin Slininger, Moline, Michael (Rachel) Slininger, Cherokee, IA, Randi (Junior Oliva) Adams, Coal Valley, Jennifer Barnett, Moline, Jamie (Jacob) Viaene, Moline, Ambi Sappho, Moline, Jarrod Williams, Clinton, IA, Bryan-Patrik Slininger, Rock Island, Nicholas Slininger, East Moline, and Kaitlynn Slininger, East Moline; great grandchildren, Owen Slininger, Cameron Brewer, Keegan Brewer, Cruz Oliva, Cristian Oliva, Julian Oliva, Jaxon Oliva, Bentley Oliva, Elijah Barnett, and Conner Skiles; with one great granddaughter and one great great grandchild on the way; siblings, Janet (Steve Lawrence) Crow, East Moline, Joseph (Sherrie) Slininger, East Moline, Joyce (David) Franks, Mountain Home, Ark., and Judy (Dale) Huntley, Rock Island; sister in law, Marilyn Slininger, Moline; and his cat, Lucky.</p> <p>He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merle Slininger and grandson, Jason Barnett.</p> <p>Memories may be shared online by visiting esterdahl.com.</p>

Don and Lovena "adopted" my daughter, Jessica. Don was the only grandpa that she knew. Our family has been very blessed to have had him in our life.
