Maria Cristina Roman Chicago, Illinois Obituary

Maria Cristina Roman

Maria Roman, 72, of Chicago, Illinois, passed on April 23, 2022 in her sleep. Maria was born on August 15, 1949 in Mexico. She immigrated to Chicago in the 70’s to successfully build the American dream. She worked vigorously and proudly to provide for eight children. When coming to Chicago, she worked her way to learn to speak and write in English. And learned how to drive and to ultimately purchase a house. Our mom studied endless with the teachers at CSP to get her citizenship. That was one of her proudest moment becoming a US citizen. On Maria’s journey she meet and befriended many people that helped her. Joan (Anita) and David Leidy were more than friends to her, they were her family. She was forever grateful to them for all the love and support they gave her. Until her death, Maria was happily retired and enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to 2nd hand stores, garage sales and the flea market – she was a true bargain hunter. Maria never passed up an invitation to breakfast/ brunch; possibly her favorite meal. She is survived by her children Gerardo Arriaga Roman, Martha Arriaga, Oscar Aceves, Sandra Aceves, Irene Aceves, Sara Aceves, and Mario Estrada. And her twenty-two grandchildren with five great grandchildren. All of her friends and family will miss her great smile and her “tell it like it is” boldness.
