Boyd E. Hendricks, 79, of Alden, Kansas, passed away April 21, 2022, at Sterling Village, Sterling, Kansas. He was born February 3, 1943, in Sterling, the son of Delbert E. and Dilcy Ellen Royer Hendricks. Boyd was a near lifelong Alden resident. He graduated from Alden High School. Boyd served in the United States Army from July 30, 1963 until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1969. He worked for Northern Natural Gas near Lyons, Kansas, for over 30 years, retiring on January 31, 2005. Boyd was a member of the Alden Baptist Church and a member of the Sterling American Legion Post #128. He served on the Council on Aging Board in Alden and helped with commodities. Boyd enjoyed working in his shed, yard work and gardening. He loved listening to the RFD music station and taking his dogs for a ride in his pickup every day. On July 13, 1967, Boyd was united in marriage with Thu Nguyet in Vietnam; they resided in Alden. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2020. He is also preceded in death by his parents; son, Hiep Vu; brother, Randall Hendricks; sister, Daisyann Anderson; and brother, Floyd Hendricks. Boyd is survived by his son, James “Jim” Hendricks of Houston, TX; two daughters, Janny Hendricks of Alden, KS, and Thuy “Twee” Hendricks of San Francisco, CA; and four grandchildren, Paxton Hendricks and Robert Hendricks both of Cypress, TX, Joshua Ortiz of Ft. Collins, CO; and Dana Vu of Bessemer, AL. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, April 25, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Alden Baptist Church, with Pastor Matt Hendricks officiating. The family suggests everyone wear casual clothing to the service. Burial will follow at Alden Valley Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Sterling Village in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
