Adam R. Courtier

SERVICE INFORMATION:

Adam Robert Courtier, 35, of Shenandoah, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2022, at the Shenandoah Medical Center.  A celebration of life funeral service for Adam will be held at 9:30 am at the Nishna Valley Christian Church (415 N Fremont St) in Shenandoah on Saturday, April 23, 2022, with his uncle, Rick Sons, officiating and Devon Sons giving words of comfort. Visitation will be held at the Nishna Valley Funeral Home from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 22, 2022.  Memorials in Adam's name may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.  Adam was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  Everyone is encouraged to wear a Cowboys jersey or shirt in his honor (or your favorite sports team) for the visitation with family from 5 to 7.  

OBITUARY:

     Adam Robert Courtier, son of Dena Louise (Stevens) Sons and Bill Sons and Jeffrey Charles Courtier and Susan Courtier, was born on September 11, 1986, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, just in time for football season.  He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2022, at the Shenandoah Medical Center following a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Shortly after his birth, doctors told the family that Adam’s life expectancy would be no more than 15 years of age. The family is grateful and blessed that he doubled that, plus five years, attaining the age of 35 years, 7 months, 8 days.

     At the age of two, Adam and his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where he would live the rest of his life.  He attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 2005 where he proudly walked across the field to receive his diploma. While in High School, he became the proud owner of a 1976 Nova which Adam, Bill and Gramps spent hours rebuilding. Following high school, Adam worked at Lloyd’s Inc for two years doing data entry work and then worked at S & S Appliance in Clarinda, Iowa, for one year keeping their website up to date.

     To say that Adam was a big sports fan, is an understatement.  He loved football and his very favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Some of his fondest memories came from attending three Dallas Cowboys games in person.  He was also a season ticket holder for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and enjoyed attending games when possible. Coming from a music family, he loved music of all types.  He enjoyed watching WWE on TV and attended numerous events in person as well. He collected sports memorabilia and had quite a collection of shot glasses. He also spent as much time with his girlfriend Jen, as possible and he didn’t care what they did.

     Most important to Adam, however, were his family and friends. He especially loved his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with everyone and couldn’t wait to have a full house of people and oftentimes, would arrange parties for no apparent reason, just to have company.

     Preceding Adam in death were his grandmother, Patty Stevens; grandfather, Arnold Courtier; and maternal and paternal great grandparents.  Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Dena and Bill Sons of Shenandoah, IA and Jeffrey and Susan Courtier of Glenwood, IA; six siblings, Stephanie (Sons) Neve and  husband Stephen and their two sons, Jameson and Samuel of Indianola, IA, Justin Sons and wife Ashlyn and their three children, Jaelyn, Adelyn and Weslyn of Council Bluffs, IA, Ashleigh (Sons) Smith and husband Elliot of Shenandoah, IA, Brett  Borden and Caleb Borden, both of Iowa City, IA, and Garrett Borden and wife Razelle of Council Bluffs, IA; grandparents, Robert Stevens of Essex, IA, Gary and Lola Mae Sons of Shenandoah, IA, and Norm and Linda Schilb of Clarinda, IA; girlfriend, Jen Agnew of Essex, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
