Charles Harrison Hayes, Sr.
<p>Charles Harrison Hayes, Sr. devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS on Friday, April 22, 2022. Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. Father Mike O’Brian will be presiding. Burial will immediately follow at Canton Cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home in Canton is handling the arrangements.</p> <p>Mr. Hayes was born on August 8, 1937, one of seven at the family home in Sulphur Springs, MS to Marguerite Whelan Hayes and Thomas Stanford Hayes, Sr. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS.</p> <p>As a salesperson, Mr. Hayes utilized his God-given talent for building and holding friendships. He enjoyed owning his own business, Hayes Glass, Company in Canton, MS. He loved his fellow neighbors and was always available to lend a hand to anyone in need. He never met a stranger. He was married 48 years to his wife.</p> <p>Mr. Hayes’ daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to him as Pop. He was his happiest surrounded by his family. He and Bobbye loved to travel in their camper and often took their granddaughter, Amanda, with them on trips. He always smiled and would take a piece of any dessert you offered him.</p> <p>Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Thomas Sandford Hayes, Jr., Benjamin Muse Hayes, Peter Whelen Hayes; Sister Mary Thomasita Hayes, Allie Hayes Tagg, and Marguerite Hayes Jarrell; and son, Thad Lea.</p> <p>Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bobbye Bates Hayes; his daughter, Lori Lea, his grandchildren Amanda Franklin and her husband, Eddie, Patrick Grissett and his wife, Jessica; and his great-grandchildren, Morgan Grissett, Avery Franklin, and Edgar Franklin, his son, Chuck Hayes and wife, Rose, granddaughter, Jennifer Rushing, and her husband Zack, and great-grandson, James Rushing, along with many nieces and nephews.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank his caregivers with Heart of Hospice, Madison County Nursing Home, and Compassus Hospice for all the love, support, and care during his illness.</p>August 8, 1937 - April 19, 202208/08/193704/19/2022
