Avis V. King Obituary

The passing of Avis Vivian King of Fredericton, NB formerly of Miramichi, NB, wife of the late Alan King occurred on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Shannex- Thomas Hall, Fredericton, NB.  Born on August 20, 1931 in Zealand, NB she was the daughter of Gustavus and Eva (Crouse) Wilson.  Avis was a teacher on many CFB bases across Canada and lastly, before she retired, in Burnt Church, NB. She was Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Miramichi and Devon Chapter, Fredericton and a member until her declining health. She enjoyed all outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, walking, golf, curling, dancing, socializing, especially during their annual vacations in Florida, playing bridge and most importantly her gardening, until Alzheimer’s took away her soul and spirit and conversation. She belongs to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Fredericton and belonged to St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Miramichi.

Avis is survived by her daughters, Sandra King (Greg Gallant) of Black River Bridge, NB, Judy Fifield (George) of Terrace, BC and Joanne King of Fredericton, NB; son, Jim King (Margarette) of Mill Cove, NB; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, June Pickard and Charlotte Clark; brother-in-law, David King; many nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents and husband, Avis was predeceased by her sisters, Aldah Burtt, Ferne Wilson, Neva Wallace, Zula Morehouse and Noreen Rowe; brothers, Paul and Aubrey Wilson.  

As per the family’s request, masks will be required at all events. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 12-2 pm followed by a Funeral Service in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel at 2 pm. Interment will be in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the staff of Thomas Hall second floor and a special caregiver, Tena Thompson. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
