MARY RUTH LEONARD Obituary

On Saturday morning, February 19, 2022, Mary Ruth (Wolters) Leonard, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93.

Mary Ruth was born in Atchison, Kansas on March 10, 1928, to Al and Ruth (Severin) Wolters. In 1949 Mary Ruth married Lawrence A. Leonard in Kansas and after over a decade living around the country, settled down to raise her children, Mark, Debbie, and Greg, in Newton, Massachusetts in 1964. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University in 1967 and 1968, then taught English literature at Framingham North High 1969-1993. She lived in Framingham for over forty years and was a member of St. Tarcisius parish.

Mary loved, and was cherished by, her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for bringing family and friends around the table for meals and social time. She was a life-long learner and lover of the arts, exploring music, theater, poetry, and literature. Mary was an ardent quilter, active in guilds, volunteering with MassQuilts documentation, lovingly making beautiful quilts for family, friends and for charity, and was celebrated for her craft.

Mary Ruth was preceded in death by brothers Frank and Tom and sister Patty. She is survived by her sisters Norma Jean, Nancy, and Susan; by her children Mark and Susan (So) Leonard, Debbie (Leonard) and Dave Lovejoy, and Greg Leonard; by her grandchildren Abraham Pierce and Jessica Rosario, Chris Leonard, Brian and Jessie (Bewsee) Leonard, and Stephanie Leonard; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New England Quilt Museum, 18 Shattuck St, Lowell, MA 01852 or online at www.neqm.org/join-give
