Carol E. Mussaw (Payne)

Newark - Carol Elizabeth Mussaw, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Clifton Springs Hospital.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St, Newark. All other services will remain private.

Carol was born the daughter of the late Roger and Jean (Reigel) Smith on Wednesday, January 1, 1947, in Canandaigua, NY. She was raised in the Canandaigua area, graduating from Canandaigua Academy. Carol earned two associate degree's from FLCC, graduating with high honors each time. Most will remember Carol from the Lafayette restaurant, where she worked as a waitress. Carol considered her children and grandchildren among her most significant accomplishments. Carol enjoyed watching television (Food Network and True Crime shows), making jewelry, and gardening.

Carol will be loving remembered by her children Clayton “Cliffy” (Nancy) Barse’, Thomas (Liz) Payne, Jason (Angela) Payne, Kendra (Richard) Rennie, Elizabeth Gerhart (Kyle Gosier) and Kacie (Nick Bazinga) Winsor; her grandchildren Christopher (Sam) Barse’, Shahn (Kamille) Barse’, Steven Barse’, Kory Barse’, Caleb Barse’, Kristiana (Scotland) DeTienne, Cameron Barse’, Benjamin Gamblin, Joshua Gamblin, Carl “New Cousin Carl” LaRue, Gideon Payne, Zipporah Payne, Deiondra Payne, Olivia Payne, Meghan (Brian) Davis, James (Emily) Thompson, Pollyanna Treese (Deion Smith), Jadon Treese, Erica Rennie, Benjamin Treese, Abigail Payne, Jerame Payne, Mallory Payne, Rigel Winsor and Conor Winsor; twenty great-grandchildren; siblings Bette Jo (Lewie) Payne, Todd (Brenda) Smith and Michelle Smith; several nieces and nephews.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, William in 2017; her siblings, Dennis Smith, Thomas Smith, Bonnie Commando and Sean Smith.
