Clark Allen Taylor

Clark Allen Taylor, age 82, of Clayton, Ga passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at NE Ga Hospital following a brief illness.

Allen was born on July 22, 1939 to Renard Leamon and Minnie Henrietta (Whitmire) Taylor in Mt City, Ga. After graduating from Rabun County High School in 1957, he went on to study at Atlanta Law School. Later, at the young age of 24, he was elected to the office of Rabun County Clerk of Court. After leaving the Clerk’s office, he went on to a career in construction and real estate.

His love of Rabun “Rhubarb” County, as he often referred to it, was due to his multigenerational roots on both sides of his family, along with his deep appreciation of Rabun’s natural beauty. A talkative “people” person by nature, Allen met no strangers, only new friends.

Inspired by his love of Rabun County, Allen was determined to support its progress through civic involvement. Known as someone who could “get things done”, he was often called upon by county, city, and community leaders to lend his skill and expertise to core public projects. Some of those projects included serving as co-creator and chairman of both the original Zoning Board, and the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority. He also served for many years as a board member and later, chairman, of the Rabun County Hospital Authority. He maintained throughout his life that he considered it both a privilege, and an honor, to serve the people and place that he so loved.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his only son, Lorne Clark Taylor, five brothers, Denver Victor, Jess Lawton, John Melvin, Renard Ervin, and James Hoyt Taylor, and one sister, Mary Claudette Taylor Bramlett. He is survived by his daughter, Amy Taylor Dickerson of Rabun Gap, Ga., two sisters, Shirley Waunett Sexton of Clayton, and Shelby Blackburn (Frank) of Canton, Ga., as well as his longtime companion, Noreen “Lucy” Ramey Jacobs, of Clayton.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from noon until 2pm. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 2:30pm, with Rev. James Turpin officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service and be held at Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery in Rabun Gap, Ga, with Rev. John Taylor Bramlett officiating. The graveside service will include a Masonic Rite burial and will be performed by Rabun Gap Masonic Lodge 265, of which Allen was a proud Past Master, and decades long member.

The family will be in residence at Mr. Taylor’s home at 100 Howling Wolf Trail, Grouse Ledge development off of Germany Mt. Rd., Clayton.
