Obituary

On March 21, 2022, we had to say goodbye, here on Earth, to an extraordinary individual, John Allan Matuszewski, a man of many hats and talents. Our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

John A. Matuszewski was born on February 1, 1955, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Marjorie (Bourdon) and John D. Matuszewski. He graduated from All Saints High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany, becoming a tank commander. John worked as a Mechanical Engineer and later as an Applications Engineer for over 20 years. As an engineer, John was one of the best.

John never met a project he wasn’t willing to tackle, and that willingness took him on many adventures over his lifetime. John had a way of turning everything into something special, whether it be a plate of food or an everyday morning while getting ready for work.

Everyone loved his smile and fun personality. He will be remembered for his ability to design and build anything, and was always helping out on a project. Never did he come empty-handed to a gathering, food was his specialty. He was a phenomenal chef and enjoyed cooking for his family the most.

Although John enjoyed camping and boating, he loved sharing his enjoyment alongside his family and friends.

In 1974 he married Wendy Chanel who preceded him in death in 1996. Finding a second chance at love, he married Heidi Shillair in 1998.

He is survived by his wife Heidi, and five children who will all miss him tremendously. His kindness, love and generosity will never be forgotten; Jenesa (Steven) Niswonger, Aaron Matuszewski, Shawna Walraven, Robyn (Josh) Pulver, and Sondra (Brian) Kern. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren who will also miss their Papa/Hoppie/Grandpa, Caleb, Nathan, and Maicie Niswonger, Zander and Harper Walraven, Alexis, Jace, Jaxon, Ellis and Boone Pulver, and Ava and Ezra Kern; his siblings, David (Bonnie) Bourdon, Judy (Dale) Zielinski, and Connie (Alan) Lukowski; sister-in-law, Holli Porterfield; step-siblings, Sandy Delestowicz, Tom Laskey, and David Laskey; many nieces and nephews, Annette, Kerri, Michael, Laurie, Nathan, Josh, Marcy, Jeremy, Ken, Steve, Dan, Bill , Stacie, Ryan, AJ, Lisa, Hunter, and Haylee.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Gehringer; brother-in-law, Douglas Porterfield; and nephew Chris.

John’s family listed above and many of his friends, were always in his thoughts and included in his daily prayers. You gave us a gift of memories John! We will never forget you and will always love you.
