Alphia Quinzy Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Ms. Alphia Quinzy of Gadsden, who trade time for eternity on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.  We ask that you keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Alphia Denise Quinzy was born April 7, 1969, to the union of the late Mrs. Ninna G. Quinzy and Rev. Johnnie L. Quinzy in Gadsden, Alabama. She departed this life on March 29, 2022, at her home. As a child, Alphia loved spending time with her sister and her cousins, playing marbles, skating, and channeling Michelangelo with their artwork on the basement wall.

She was educated in the Gadsden City School System, graduating from Gadsden High School in 1987. She matriculated to Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) in Normal, Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications. She later received certification in web design. She did some hand modeling and had a candid appearance in the show Greenleaf (Season 2, Episode 1 A House Divided) on the OWN network.

Alphia had a zest for living life to its fullest. She enjoyed music, reading, traveling, going to concerts, jewelry making, and sports. Each fall you can be sure that she was going to attend several AAMU football games to support her beloved alma mater and the members of the Marching Maroon and White Band, of which she was an alumni member. She was a part of the flute section while attending as well as a charter member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Theta Iota Chapter.

Alphia confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and joined the St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Gadsden, Alabama. At St. John, she received her foundation of her spiritual walk. She served on the Usher Board, Christian Youth Fellowship, and Sunday School Secretary. Daily she meditated, prayed, and read the Word of God.

Alphia’s love for being of service to all mankind led her to being initiated into the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Mu Chapter on the campus of AAMU, 30 years ago. After moving back to Gadsden to be her mother’s caregiver, she joined Lambda Eta Omega Chapter where her service passions included working with the chapter’s Target 2, Target 5, and Sisterly Relations committees. She was a humble and active Silver Star member until her death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Mrs. Cynthia Quinzy-Coleman, Huntsville, AL; her brother-in-love, Mr. William L. Coleman, Huntsville, AL; her niece, Nadia C. Coleman, Huntsville, AL; aunt, Ms. Sarah Steed, New Boston, MI; and a host of other family members and close friends.
