Douglas- John R. “Jack” Potter, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 after a period of declining health at UMass University in Worcester, with his loving family at his side.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Louise M. (Allain) Berube-Potter; 3 sons, Mark J. Potter and his wife Laurie of Douglas, Daniel P. Potter of San Diego, CA, and Ryan M. Potter and his wife Leanne of Mattapoisett; their mother, and his former wife, Pamela Potter of Millbury; 2 step-children, Matthew Berube and his wife Gwen of Dayville, CT, and Caroline Daniel and her husband Casey of Dunwoody, GA; 8 grandchildren, Murphy, Anders, Rylee, Addison, and Jackson Potter, and Allaina, Nolan, and Audrey Daniel; 3 siblings, Ronald Potter and his wife Barbara of Holden, James Potter and his partner Claire of Phillipston, and Barbara Potter of Rutland, Aunt Dot Elliott of Leeds, his Godchildren, Molli Woodland of Tampa, FL, Judy Fayre of Charlotte, VT and Kristen Cervone of Burlington as well as cousins, many nieces, nephews, and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Margaret (Murphy) Potter and a grandson, Marshall Potter.

Born in Ware on August 31, 1944 Jack grew up in Barre. He was a graduate of Barre High School class of 1962, and furthered his education attending Quinsigamond Community College and Clark University, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Jack was a proud U.S Air Force veteran serving in Kansas, and in Okinawa, Japan. Jack worked as a Central Office Repairman for Verizon, previously New England Telephone, from 1970 until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, Jack worked at the Elmwood Elementary School in Millbury as a custodian until his retirement in 2007.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and served as a trustee of the Millbury Public Library.  He was a long time supporter of The No. 4 Schoolhouse along with his brothers and sister.  They all enjoyed the parties, picnics and activities at The No. 4.  He enjoyed kayaking, walks on the beach, cross country skiing, and loved gardening, especially flower gardening. He was a frequent patron of the Picket Fence Restaurant, living in Douglas the past 22 years. Jack was a real funny guy, (a prankster at times), who loved his family dearly and will be remembered for his ability to make everyone laugh and smile.

The family would like to thank the medical team, especially the wonderful and compassionate nurses of 3 ICU and 8 North.

His memorial calling hours will be held from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas on Sunday, March 27 from 10 to 12 noon following a service in the funeral home at noon.
