James Black, 66, of Ridgeland passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his residence. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.


James Marlon (Dek) Black was born July 12, 1955 to the late Dunk and Alma Mingo Black in the Bamberg section of Colleton County, SC. He was the eighth child born to this union. He received his formal education in the public school system in Ruffin, SC. As a young man, James became a member of the Hickory Hill Union Church in Smoaks, SC.
Dek was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was a man of great skills, which included carpentry, roofing and dry wall. He worked at the Island Club on HHI, SC for many years. James was considered to be a “Jack of All Trades” and had many jobs in the Low Country area of South Carolina as well. Because of his warm and overall friendly spirit. James had many friends, with who he loved to spend time with.
On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from his sister home in Ridgeland, SC, James was called home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Curtis Black, and Willie (Daisy) Black, and three sisters: Stella (Buster) Wallace, Anna Bell Black and Rena (Searooks) Murdaugh, and sister-in-law Elease Black.
Those left to cherish his precious memories are: his children, James Black Jr., Semaj Black, Peaches Black, Reya Black, three brothers; Morris Black and John Black of Ridgeland, SC, and Dunk Black of Smoaks, SC, one sister Sandra Black of Ridgeland, SC, his grandchildren, a sister-in-law Patricia Black of Ridgeland, SC along with a host of Nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
