Jeanne Martin Obituary

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanne Martin (Perdue).  Jeanne, 74, passed away on March 4, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Jeanne was born in 1948 and spent her childhood in Oak Lawn, IL with her 5 brothers and sisters.  After high school, Jeanne met the love of her life, Bill Martin.  They spent their life together raising their four children in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago.  As the self proclaimed Matriarch of the Perdue/McMahon family, Jeanne loved spending time with her extended family, hosting large family gatherings, and doling out advise, solicited or not.   Anyone who knew Jeanne was touched by her generosity, captivated by her stories and entertained by her humor.

She dedicated her life advocating for others, she spent her career working in healthcare to ensure every patient was getting the best treatment.  In her retirement she volunteered for CASA and the Democratic Party; also attended marches supporting women’s rights and gun control.   She loved traveling with family and friends, she visited all 50 states and many foreign countries.  She was happiest spending time with her husband Bill, whether it was going to the grocery store, visiting family or going on their extended vacations overseas.  Spoiling her grandchildren was one of her favorite pastimes even if it created a logistical nightmare for her own children.  She enjoyed playing the piano, and in her 5 years of retirement she was able to master 5 bars of the song Sound of Silence.  Jeanne had a large family and many friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Jeanne is survived by her husband Bill; children, Jen Hart, Kelly(Nitin) Rao, Bill(Emily) Martin and Meghan(Mat) Kremke; grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, Norah, Liam, Grace, Claire, Molly, Korinne and Camden. Preceding her in death was her mother, Mary Perdue (McMahon); father, Raymond Perdue; sister, Kathy Fitzpatrick (Perdue) and nephew Brian Fitzpatrick.

The family will be having a private service to celebrate Jeanne’s life.  In lieu of flowers, if inclined, please make donations to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
