His Legacy…Gary Simon, 82, passed away March 3, 2022.  He was born on May 5th, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Charles and Katharine (Miller) Simon. Gary married his wife of 62 years, Evelyn, on September 14th, 1959 in Detroit, MI.  Gary will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Gary served as an aircraft mechanic in the Navy from 1957-1963 and was aboard the USS Lake Champlain when they made history by recovering the first astronauts from space travel in the south Atlantic Ocean. Gary worked for the Ann Arbor News from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. Gary’s retirement years were spent enjoying time with his family, traveling and spending time in Florida and Bear Lake, Michigan.

His Family…Gary will be missed by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Lori (Charlie) Kaiser and Valerie (Mike) Palmer; grandchildren, Crystal (Gary) Harrison, Nicole (Josh) Corey, Amanda Kaiser and Jessica (Andrew) Lisabeth; and Great grandchildren, Hudson Harrison. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Katharine Simon and his sister, Katie Jendritz.

His Farewell… Gary’s family and friends will gather for a Community Farewell on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM (11:00AM-2:00PM gathering) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Shelters Chapel, Michigan. Bill Donahue will serve as celebrant.
