Jon Francis Steczkiewicz Obituary

Jon Francis Steczkiewicz died on February 27th 2022 at Squamish General Hospital, at the age of 73.

Jon was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed; he leaves behind his sister Janice, his three children Nicholas, Megan, Adam, and his three grandchildren Brendan, Elliott, and Audrey.

Jon battled many health issues during his final years, yet had a sharp mind and a great sense of humour — always offering advice to those close to him. Jon was a very kind and patient man, a conversationalist, and he appreciated a good debate regardless of the subject. He always said he loved to play “the devil's advocate.”

Jon was born in Montreal, Quebec to Jennie and John Steczkiewicz. He majored in Political Science at Loyola University. After his studies, he followed in his father's footsteps which led to a 32-year career with Air Canada. He was great with numbers and understanding finances as he was even a part-time tax accountant for many years. Jon met his wife, Brenda McLeod, in Montreal. They were married in 1977 and relocated to Oakville, ON in 1986 to raise their three children.

In 2013, just before his first grandson was born, he moved to BC to be closer to his children, who had all embraced the west coast lifestyle. Jon spent the last few years living at Shannon Falls Retirement Residence in Squamish.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Shannon Falls for their continued support and kindness. Also, many thanks go out to the team at Squamish General Hospital and Dr. Jamieson, who all made many efforts to keep our dad comfortable in his final days.

“If there is ever a tomorrow when we are not together…there is something you must remember:

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

But the most important thing is, even if we're apart… I'll always be with you.”
