Karl Timothy Weidmann Obituary

Karl Timothy “Tim” Weidmann, 71, of Chicago, formerly of Skokie/Evanston, passed away on Sunday, February 20. He was the cherished son of the late Rev. Carl F. and Kathryn Weidmann, brother of Carlynn (Ted) Matern and the Rev. Dr. Frederick (Kerstin) Weidmann. Loving and proud father of Jesse (Stephanie) Florea, Sarah (Ruth Batacan) Weidmann and Seth (Emily Reed) Weidmann. Beloved uncle of Joshua and Kathryn Weidmann, and Claire Matern. Loving grandfather of Nathanael (Davianne) Florea, Amber Docterman, and Esther Batacan Weidmann. And great-grandfather of Paisley and Miles Docterman. He is survived by Dianne Michael (married 1969-1972, mother of Jesse) and Deborah Weidmann (married 1976-2010, mother of Sarah and Seth). Tim, a graduate of Bronxville (NY) High School (1968), Harvard College (A.B. 1972) and Yale University (M.Div. 1980), dedicated his life to academia and the church. As a pioneer in higher education fundraising, Tim raised more than a half-billion dollars for Yale, Northwestern University, and Loyola Medicine. He loved reading and writing poetry, composing two books Recovery and Change and Some Pomes, and several published children’s stories. Tim enjoyed Chicago’s restaurants and its culture, especially the Jazz Showcase, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Art Institute. A celebration of life will be held at The Breakers at Edgewater Beach on March 22 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, the site of his interment.
