Patricia Louise Sly, 79 of Tuscola, Illinois passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois. She was housekeeping supervisor for Jarman Hospital in Tuscola, Illinois. She was born August 9, 1942 near Rockville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Wilbur Fred and Blanche (Crawford) Shafer. She married Fred Sly December 8, 2006 in Paris and he survives. Other survivors include two step sons, Allyn Sly of Chrisman, Illinois and Jeremy Sly of Paris; a brother John Shafer of Cloverdale, Indiana; a sister Lois Shafer of Cloverdale, Indiana; four step grandchildren; and she was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Elsie Marlar and Ruby Patterson; brother Jim Shafer; and two infant brothers Robert Joseph Shafer and Donald Wayne Shafer. Pat was housekeeping supervisor for Jarman Hospital in Tuscola, Illinois until its closing. She retired from the Douglas County Jail where she was a cook. She was a member of Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Church. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School. As a woman of faith, Pat enjoyed singing hymns and reading inspirational stories. Most of all, she loved visiting and laughing with friends and everyone she met. Beloved by all, she was known for her laughter and her "crazy and silly” personality. SERVICE INFORMATION Services celebrating her life were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Templeton Funeral Home. Elder Larry Beard, Sr. officiated and burial followed in Embarrass Cemetery, near Redmon, Illinois. Casket bearers were Matthew Owen and Allyn, Daniel, Eric, Jeremy, and Tony Sly. Visitation was from 1:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
