G. Lamar Bonner Obituary

Mr. G. Lamar Bonner, 90, of Quincy, PA passed away Thursday morning, February 24, 2022, at Laurel Lakes Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg. Born March 27, 1931 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Mahlon B. and Susie R. (Moats) Bonner. He and his wife, of over 67 years, Vonda LaRue (Whitmore) Bonner, were married on June 5, 1954 in the old Fairview Ward Chapel, by Bishop Harvey G. Stoops. On July 3, 1964, they were Sealed for Time and Eternity in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple. Mr. Bonner sold automobiles for most of his life. He worked for Mentzer and Reid Chrysler & Plymouth dealership in Waynesboro and later for Shively Motors, Chambersburg. Prior to his retirement, he was a co-owner at Shively Motors for 15 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fairview Ward. He served in many callings in the church, including serving as Bishop. Mr. Bonner had a love for animals, especially his beautiful horses and his Labrador retrievers, Penny and Bear. He also loved spending time with and playing with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two grandchildren, Christy Bonner of Waynesboro and Dylan Bonner of Carlisle, PA; his daughter-in-law, Marci Bonner of Chambersburg; one brother, Gerald P. Bonner of Quincy; several nieces and nephews; and his little neighbor girl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kippen L. “Kip” Bonner; one infant daughter, Christy Lynn Bonner; and two brothers, Eugene Bonner and Harvey Bonner. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fairview Ward, 11887 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro with Bishop Jared Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Tuesday morning, in the church.
