Obituary

Stanley Richard Woods passed peacefully at the age of 81 years old on February 13, 2022.  He was born August 23, 1940 in Hilleman, Arkansas to Stanley and Carrie (Smith) Woods.  Stanley attended Cotton Plant School.

Stanley married Wanda Hunsucker on November 27, 1959.  He honored his US Army military commitment, by serving from January 1959 until March 1962 then transferred to the Army Reserves.  Stanley was honorably discharged at rank SP4 on December 31, 1964.  He retired from the City of Beebe, Beebe Volunteer Fire Department, and the Beebe School District.

Stanley was a Mason for over 50 years with memberships at the Cotton Plant Lodge #94, McCrory Colony Lodge #190 and Beebe Lodge #145.  He was very active with the Masons until his health kept him from attending.

Anyone who knew Stanley knew about his obsession with fishing…either flathead catfish on the Cache River or crappie from any hole he could find.  A flathead weighing in over 40 lbs. was his biggest catch.  It didn’t matter if it was sunny, raining, sleeting or snowing, biting or not, he loved it!  He also enjoyed gardening, and gave away most of his vegetables to people all over town.  He could be “rough around the edges” but had the biggest and most giving heart for anyone in need!

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, and most of his siblings.

Stanley is survived by daughter Tammie Covington (Cleve) of Mount Vernon; son, Charles Woods (Kelly) of Beebe; grandchildren, Garrett Woods (Raegan) of Searcy, Jettie Woods (Derrek Newell) of Beebe, Leann Mitchell (Dylan) of Mount Vernon; great grandchildren, Emma and Oliver Mitchell, and Jaxon Skillern; and two sisters, Judy and Ann.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Jeanie Gavin and the Beebe Retirement Center for helping us take such good care of Stanley.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Beebe Public School Education Scholarship fund, 1201 W. Center St., Beebe, AR  72012.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.  Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2021 at Cotton Plant Cemetery.
