Johnnie D. Grun, Jr. age 77 of La Vernia, Texas passed away on February 10, 2022.


Johnnie was born on August 11, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to Alma and Johnnie D. Grun. Johnnie graduated from LaVernia High School in 1962 where he enjoyed playing football and running track. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Cook, doing 4 tours in Vietnam. After serving in the military, he had a career as an electrician, working for Civil Service on various bases in San Antonio. He retired at the age of 55 in a supervisory role. After retirement, Johnnie & Caralyn’s hobbies included refinishing furniture and selling antiques. Many friends were made selling their creations at Fredericksburg Trade Days, their “Home Away from Home”.


Johnnie loved his family and would have gatherings on every holiday. He would barbeque and play dominos for hours with anyone who would sit in. He also enjoyed fishing with friends and family, gardening, raising farm animals, and dancing.


Johnnie is preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Grun and his two sisters, Mildred Neal and Francis Hartwick. He will be missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Caralyn Grun. Children; John L. Grun (Shelly), Sandra Peschke (Allen), Jodi Blume (Dale), Susan Woodall (Bill), Scott Duelm; grandchildren, Katelyn Grun, Zoe Peschke, Zane Peschke, Devin Blume, Treyton Blume, Kamrin Thomas (Gavin), Aaron Duelm (Erin), Zachary Duelm, Amber Duelm; great-grandchildren, Kinsleigh Thomas, Duke Davis; brothers, Art Grun (Lisa), Joe Grun (Beverly); sister-in-laws, Patsy Baldwin (Van), Dana Driggers (Bobby); numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.


Visitation with family will take place Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Christ Lutheran of Elm Creek.

Reverend Toby Burk will officiate the services with interment following at Christ Lutheran Elm Creek Cemetery.
