Joanna Emily "Jo" Royster

Joanna Emily Royster was born to Hallie Royster on Monday September 9, 1935 in Princeton, West Virginia. She was the youngest of three children, all of her siblings have preceded her in death. In 1960, Joanna moved to Paterson, New Jersey with her two eldest children Tyrone McKay of Durham, North Carolina and Joyce McKay of Paterson, NJ. She later beard four more children Victor McKay of Charlotte, North Carolina, Theresa Royster of Paterson, New Jersey, Kenneth Royster of Mine Hill, New Jersey and Jaime Royster of Paterson, New Jersey. She was preceded in Death by her mother Hallie Royster and her loving grandson Levar McKay. Over the course of years, Joanna worked at a Visiting Homemaker. She was a devoted grandmother to her 11 grandchildren Monique McKay, Treheim Young, David Royster, Levar McKay, Shanay Royster, Timiri McKay, Jakyia Royster, Moniera Royster, Thomas McKay, Deja Royster and Jayla Royster and 15 great grandchildren. Throughout the years Joanna attended various churches but she later began to study the Bible with Jehovah Witnesses. Her love for God and strong faith in what she learned moved her to dedicate her life to Jehovah and symbolized it by water baptism on August 5, 1995. For years, Joanna served as a full time pioneer minister of Jehovah Witnesses, teaching others the truth of the good news. She treasured her ministry, she even travelled to remote areas to preach the good news. As a member of the West Congregation in Paterson, New Jersey and then later at the Randolph congregation in Randolph, New Jersey, she encouraged her spiritual brothers and sisters by her faith, zeal, determination and genuine concern. Joanna will always be remembered as selfless, she always had a smile even when time were tough, she had a quiet strength and never complained. Joanna will always and forever be remembered as the Strength and Foundation of our family and will forever live in our hearts.
