Curtis “Curt” Aden Leasor, 72, of Morgantown passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born February 22, 1949, in Fairmont, WV, son of the late Mary O’Hare Leasor and Keith Leasor.

Curt was a husband, father of five children, and grandfather. Working as a senior engineering technician at WVU for over 40 years, he helped carry out the yearly Pumpkin Drop, the Baja racing competition, and traveled all across North America with the Mobile Lab. These roles were an extension of his love for all things technical – over the years you could find him tinkering with items big and small, from crafting a model train set and building his own computer, to personally fixing the (many) mechanical failings of his children’s cars and restoring a forest green 1950s MG convertible. While all of these efforts were a labor of love, you wouldn’t know it by the sound of profuse expletives exiting the garage when something went awry. To him, it was worth it to know a job had been done properly.

Curt’s absence will be most heavily felt at the local spots he frequented, Mario’s Fishbowl and the bar formerly known as The Wooden Nickel, to grab drinks with friends and entertain the waitstaff. These antics were more famously known by the waitresses at Eat’n Park, where he liked to remind any breakfast companions of his trick to throw creamer packets back at those who forgot he took his coffee black.

Fulfilling his duty as a WV native and lifelong resident, he was an avid WVU sports fan. Spending almost two decades with season tickets, he enjoyed the time tailgating with friends and educating his kids about the Mountaineer traditions. In his earlier years, Curt enjoyed reading books by his favorite authors Christopher Moore and Stephen Coonts, watching documentaries, and scuba diving. Most recently, he loved spending time with family, including his dog Jack. While his children are spread across the U.S., he took this as an opportunity to travel by train to see the country and his grandkids who lovingly referred to him as ‘dadu’ given his disdain for ‘grandpa’. The love of travel was a constant throughout his life, making friends along the way in places such as Tahiti, England, Ireland, Mexico, and France.

Curt is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lauren Starcher; five children, JaNeil Mesteller and husband Jason of Toledo, OH, Joshua Leasor and wife Melissa of Tampa, FL, Elliott Leasor of Daytona Beach, FL, Aden Leasor of Washington, D.C., and Brenna Leasor of Arlington, VA; five grandchildren, Gavin, Evan, Logan, Madeline, and Emilia; one great-grandchild, Merrick Mesteller; and sister Susan Kevaski and husband Bill of Birmingham, AL. In addition to his parents, Curt was preceded in death by his infant son Benjamin and sisters Debbie and Mary Pat Leasor.
