Charles Alfred Tartt, Sr. 71, of Hartford, Connecticut changed his fleshly outfit unexpectedly on January 28, 2022, for his heavenly robe. Born June 8, 1950, in Sumterville, Alabama to Johnnie Mae Tartt and Oscar Kelly Bell, Sr. Charles was born with polio challenging himself early on he could overcome challenges. Charles confessed his life to Christ in 1964 at St. Paul Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Charles attended Sumterville County Training School where he was a drum major in the band graduating in 1968 prior to moving to Hartford, Connecticut.

Charles moved to Hartford, CT in 1968 after graduation. He attended Connecticut School of Broadcasting. He worked at Security Insurance, Courier Systems/Fleet Bank, Colt’s Firearms, ending his career as Manager of Trinity College’s Post Office as a Manger. Charles never met a stranger with his infectious smile as he enjoyed sharing his love of the Lord and joys of life with everyone. Two words to describe Charles would be peaceful and God-fearing. Charles shared his love of History, Music, Travel, and Scripture, sparking a conversation that left lasting memories. Charles morals were to treat everyone with dignity and respect whatever their social status. Charles enjoyed Western and Comedy movies. Charles an avid sports fan did not have a professional sports team, but when ask of what his favorite team, he would simply respond, “Roll Tide.’

Everlasting memories of Charles are cherished by his wife of 31 years, Sue Tartt, Hartford, Connecticut; Aunt(s) Alma L. Morgan, Hartford, Connecticut; Josephine Jones, Boyd, Alabama,; Bertha Hutchins, Dayton, Ohio; Gladys Belle, Gainesville, Alabama; Frankie Hudson, Bessemer, Alabama; Josie (Jerry) Dawson, Livingston, Alabama; Linda Bell and Arlene Bell, Chicago, Illinois.; Uncle(s) James Truman Bell and Bobby (Wanda) Bell, Livingston, Alabama; Brother, Oscar K. Bell Jr., Birmingham, Alabama:; Sister(s)  Norma F. Bell, Hueytown, Alabama; Betty J. (Chris) McCollum; Katrina (Clifford) Anderson, daughter Sonja L. Tartt, Duluth, Georgia; son(s) Earl L. Tartt, Charles A. Tartt, Jr, Hartford, Connecticut; George L. Jones, Jr. Bloomfield, Connecticut, and  Jamaal E. Tartt, Springfield, Massachusetts; and his one and only “Popeye”, grandson Jonathan C. Bailey, II, Duluth, Georgia.  Charles also leaves an imprint on the hearts of a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, 11 great-nephews and 5 great-nieces.
