Wayne E. Gembe

Wayne E. Gembe, 78 of Waynesboro, PA passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg, PA surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Baer) Gembe for 59 years. Born December 9, 1937 in Goldsboro, PA, he was the son of the late Walter L. Gembe and the late Esther (Fetrow) Gembe. He and Ruth married on Oct. 20, 1957 in Waynesboro, PA. He graduated in 1956 from Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Wayne was the owner and operator of Wayne's Auto Upholstery in Waynesboro, PA for 49 years He was a member of the Grace Brethren Church, Waynesboro PA and attended Five Forks Church, Five Forks PA. He was a member of the Owls Club Inc., FOE, Eagles Inc., American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro Historical Society, AARP and a life member of the Waynesboro Fire Dept. He served in the Waynesboro National Guard for 9 years. Wayne enjoyed bowling, golfing, restoring the interiors of classic and antique cars and auto racing. He raced cars at local dirt tracks for 15 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Diane Mentzer and husband, Ed and Trudy Gembe-Palughi and husband Joseph. One son, Dwayne Gembe and wife Erica, all of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; Jessica, Kayla, Kyle, Derrick, Andrew and Samantha; eleven great-grandchildren; Noah, Neamiah, Maya, Alexandria, Stephen, Ryan, Emmaleigh, Lilliannah, Sophia, Jackson and Saige; two sisters Caroline Sanders of Mechanicsburg, PA and Orella Robinson of Greencastle, PA and one brother Walter L. Gembe, Jr. of Waynesboro, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 11, 2016 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Adam Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Antietam Cemetery, formerly Price's Church Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday evening, November 10, 2016, in the funeral home.
