Gerald Roy McLaughlin Obituary

Gerald McLaughlin

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Roy McLaughlin.  Gerald passed with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Brandon, MB at the age of 79 years.

Gerald spent many of his working years doing carpentry work.  In the early 1970’s, he worked for Mines and Resources for a few years.  He moved to Saskatoon to pursue a carpentry job.  A few years later, Gerald moved back to McCreary to work with his brother Gordon.  They built and renovated many properties together.  Gerald decided to switch careers in the early 80’s and started working with Turtle River Watershed.  He retired from Watershed in 2001.

Gerald was always an energetic and driven person.  As young as 12 years old, he could be found doing jobs all over in the town of McCreary.  He would haul water for Boiteau’s Bakery and film reels for the McCreary movie theatre.  When the fair would come to town, Gerald was always there, ready to work.  Those who knew Gerald, they knew how much he loved desserts!  He often told the story of when he was a young boy and how he would work for pieces of mincemeat pie and ice cream!

There was never a dull moment for Gerald.  He had a love of trees that would keep him busy from spring to fall.  If he wasn’t planting trees, you would find him watering and admiring them with a coffee in hand.  But as much as he liked planting trees, he had a equal love for cutting his firewood.  Gerald took much pride in his woodpile and everyone always knew that he would have much more wood that he would ever need.  If he wasn’t hauling wood, he could be found hauling water either for his well or for use in the garden.  Regardless of the conditions, Gerald always had a wonderful harvest in the fall.

He was a homebody with a love of music.  Gerald could spend many hours listening to his favorites.  He loved playing the fiddle and singing a tune while playing his guitar.  He definitely kept everyone’s toes tapping!

Gerald was a genuine man who wore his heart on his sleeve.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Gerald, you will be greatly missed!

Gerald was predeceased by his parents Jack and Regina McLaughlin, his siblings Evelyn, Margaret, Ruth, Russell and Donald along with his brothers-in-law.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many wonderful memories; his partner Jeannette, his children Cory, Chad (Lee), Troy (Laura), Faith (Dylan), Gracie and Drayson, his grandchildren, his sister Gladys (Don), Edie, Irma, Norma and Audrey, his brothers Bruce and Gordon (Pat) along with many extended family members.

In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will take place at a future date.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the medical team and staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for the care Gerald received.  A special thank you to Rev. Joe Ball from spiritual care.  A big thank you to all of our family and friends for their texts, phone calls, cards, food and gifts!  Your kindness will be remembered.

Xoxo!
