Paula Renae Walters Obituary

Paula Renae Walters, affectionately known as “Sweetie McPetey” to her friends and family, passed away from this life to begin her eternal life in Heaven on January 26, 2022. Paula was born in Curry County, New Mexico, to William Shepherd and Earlie K. Shepherd on November 24, 1965. She moved to Oklahoma with her family as a child, growing up in Midwest City and graduating from Midwest City High with the Class of 1983. After graduation, Paula briefly attended trade school to become a forklift operator.

Sweet and selfless to her core, Paula was a dynamic person with a heart of gold. She loved her family, and she was a Domestic Goddess, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. She enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, swimming, and soaking up the sun any time she had an opportunity. She loved children, and they loved her right back, always taking to her warm and loving personality. Paula was baptized at the 132 Bible Church in Hennessey, Oklahoma. She was spiritual, and she loved God, believing that you did not have to attend church every Sunday to be close to Him, since He was everywhere, all around us. She prayed every day, especially for people who were in need.

Paula and her dad, William, were very close. They were traveling buddies, creating beautiful memories with each other on trips to North Carolina, Illinois, along with several other memorable excursions. Paula was her dad’s “taxi driver”, and she took him everywhere, on little errands, doctor’s appointments, you name it. She had the heart of a caretaker, and when her stepmom, Patsy, got sick with cancer, Paula assisted the hospice nurses with her care, and she was so incredibly good at it that they offered her a job. More than anything in life, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a proud Mee-Maw, and she was always happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Paula touched the hearts of many during her life, and she will be deeply and forever missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her stepmom, Patsy Evans, and a daughter, Angel Dawn Shepherd.

Paula is survived by her loving husband, Mike Walters; her father, William Joseph Shepherd, and her mother, Earline K. Shepherd; her children, Misti Smith, Billy Walters and wife Rena, Michael Shepherd, Sara Morrow, Christopher Wheeler, Shane Walters, and Krissi Heard; and her siblings, Billy Shepherd, Samuel Shepherd, Tanya Shepherd, and twins Joe and Mike Shepherd; along with a host of loving grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

Services will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the 132 Bible Church, located on Oklahoma Highway 132 in Hennessey, Oklahoma, 73742.
