McCabe, Grace L. – 97 of Portage, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 27, 1924 in Portage. Grace was the daughter of Herman and Anna (Comie) Bickleman. She is preceded in death by her husband: Charles P. McCabe, Sr, her daughter-in-law: Mary Ann (Bellvia) McCabe and her siblings: Fred, Bill and Herman Bickleman, Jack Canavan and Agnes, Ethel and Peg. Grace is survived by her loving sons: Charles “Corky” McCabe of Florida, Dave McCabe and Companion Pam Schilling of Portage, Robert McCabe of Florida and Larry McCabe and wife Karen (Galus) of Portage. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Annette wife of James Sendzik of Florida, Jennifer wife of Rick Batche of Windber, Lisa McCabe and companion Cindy of Latrobe, Brianne wife of Chuck Pinizzotto of Portage, Ashlee wife of Nick Freter of Maryland, Zachary McCabe and wife April (Cummins) of Atlanta Georgia, great grandchildren: Madison, Jacob (Keely) and Dominic Sendzik, Brady, Bryce and Brock Batche, Reese and Samuel Pinizzotto and Ellis Freter and many special nieces and nephews. Grace was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “DaDa”. She was a devoted Catholic and member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage. Grace was an amazing cook. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially her Thanksgiving dinners where her home was open to all. Viewing and visitation will be private to immediate family and friends. All are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant. Committal will be held in St. Bartholomew Church Cemetery in Wilmore. The family would like to give a special thank you to The Villa Crest Rehabilitative Nursing Facility and Christine Weaver and The Forest Hills Personal Care Center Staff for the excellent care that they had given to Grace and the staff at Maple Winds Personal Care Center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Grace’s name to the Portage Area Historical Society, Crichton McCormick Park and/or Tunnel to Towers Foundation for injured Veterans and First Responders.
