Catherine Wood Jackson

Catherine Wood Jackson, age 94 departed this life Thursday, January 27, 2022. Catherine was born May 29, 1927 in Tazewell, Virginia, to Hattie Wiles and Thomas Wood. In addition to her parents, Catherine was also preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, James H. Jackson, six brothers, Tom, Clinton, Robert, Archie, John, and Jeff; four sisters, Lucy, Virginia, Lib, and Grace. Catherine was a Christian and practiced her faith throughout her life. She was an active member of her church and within the community, always taking food to the sick and visiting to brighten the day for others. She enjoyed and was blessed to being a “Mom” to so many youths in the Wardell and Paintlick community as the Youth Leader for many years at the Midway Methodist Church. Later in life, Catherine obtained her CNA license so she could further serve. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant, fun loving personality, she was loved by many and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Catherine was a homemaker, loving wife, and mother. She leaves behind to celebrate her life and to continue her memories, her daughters, Carol Ann Vencill and son-in-law, Sammy Vencill, Mary Sue Hawkins and son-in-law, Jerry Hawkins, and Judy Perry and son-in-law, Ed Perry; grandson, Todd Hawkins and three great granddaughters. She also leaves behind a precious sister, Margaret “Dot” Watson and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Monday, January 31st at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Buff, VA. Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Carl Teagler and Rev. Tim Day officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Casket Bearers will be family and friends. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Members of the Claypool Hill Bible Church, the Staff of Commonwealth and MSA Hospice. The family would like to honor and thank the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living and MSA Home Health Hospice Staff Paula Slate and Betsy Ball. They have been our Mothers daily family for the last 4 years and have shown her much love and compassion. This was her home, and she loved the staff like family. The family of Catherine Jackson would like to express thanks to those who share our grief during this time of bereavement. Her life will be forever cherished in our lives. We thank God that she was a Christian and we were blessed to call her Mother, we thank God for all who loved her, we Praise God for his love for her and thank God that her Beautiful Soul is at rest.
