Palma Rae was born March 15, 1926 to Ida Rae and Marvin J. Bahl in Huntington Park California. She later had one younger sister, Marva Jane.
Palma graduated from South Gate High School in 1944 where she was known as an exceptional student and scholar and always made the list of top 5 most popular girls. Her mother thought the name Palma was beautiful being from a book she had read. However, Palma did not agree because her younger sister could not say “Palma Rae”, she called her “Possy Way”, so “Pos” became her nickname. At school she was known as Palma Rae, at church she was known as Palma. California neighbors called her Pam, but she was always Pos within the family.
Just before WWII, she started dating a popular football player from high school, Merrill Vallant (Buzz) Lee. They were married July 3, 1944 and later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. They resided in Downey, California until moving to Northern California and then Orem, Utah.
Palma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, and her grandson, Conner. She is survived by her son Michael (Julie), her daughter D’Ann (Ron Rogers), and her son Patrick (Shannon). She leaves five living grandchildren and fourteen great- grandchildren.
Her love of family was evident in every aspect of her life. Her legacy of patience, kindness, spiritual strength, warm hugs and loves will forever be an inspiration.
