Obituary

VERA PAQUIN

1930 -2022

Vera was called home and passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91, leaving behind two daughters, Shelagh and Maureen, and a grandson Nikolas (Maureen). She was predeceased by her husband, Ed and her son, Laurence.

Vera was born and raised in the Muskoka region of Ontario – the middle sister of five daughters and one son, all predeceasing her.

She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing programme in 1952 and worked as a registered nurse in many locations across Canada until she retired in 1987, with the exception of a few years when her children were young.

She met and married Edward Paquin in 1958 while she was working at the hospital in Claresholm and he was stationed at the Royal Canadian Air Force base there.  They were posted to various bases including Metz, France.  It was when they were stationed at Comox B.C., on Vancouver Island that Ed retired from the military with 20 years’ service.  He went to work in the logging camps as a first aid attendant while Vera continued working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox. Their daughters finished their schooling in the Comox Valley.

After they both retired, Vera and Ed left the island and moved to Chilliwack, B.C. for a few years.  They then moved to Osoyoos, B.C., where they spent over 10 years before returning to southern Alberta.  They lived in Nobleford for twelve years before moving to Lethbridge then finally to Coaldale.

Vera and Ed enjoyed their retirement, spending many winters in southern California as snowbirds, and traveling back to Ontario and points east of that to visit relatives.  Vera enjoyed knitting and even won many gold and silver medals in the Alberta Summer Games for Seniors for her needlework.  Her handiwork was prized among her family and friends who benefited from her hobby with beautiful sweaters or knitted dishcloths and placemats.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

For those who wish, a visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at the Coaldale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Vera’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada
