Barbara L. Reynolds Obituary

Barbara L. Reynolds of Beverly, MA passed away on January 21st at the age of 93 - almost 2 years to the day after the passing of the love of her life, Charles Reynolds. Word has it Chuck’s patience for waiting for her was waning and when reunited in the next life he said “It’s about time! Where have you been?” Barbara grew up under the watchful eye of her Swedish grandparents and uncles in the Ryal Side section of Beverly. In her youth she became an accomplished pianist (walking to take the train to Salem for weekly lessons when she turned 7), learned to sew (often making her own clothes), and took to baking (her apple pies are legendary). Barb enjoyed her studies in Beverly public schools and took part in many of the social activities the school offered. One such activity was a pep rally that she helped organize and promote. She needed a letterman’s sweater to wear when passing out fliers and approached Chuck Reynolds for one of his. This resulted in a lifelong romance that produced 8 children, 7 sons and daughters-in-law, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. The newlyweds settled in Ryal Side to raise their family and Barb’s class, capacity to love and compassion for others quickly became widely known throughout the community. She was quick to share with others the life skills she learned as a child -and added several more, including cutting hair for any kid in the neighborhood who needed it! Family vacations were often spent in Maine at Chuck’s parent’s house and on adventures with the extended family. Chuck and Barb both enjoyed gardening and tending to their flower beds, and actively taking part in anything their children were involved in. This included Scouting (Barb’s sewing skills came in handy with 4 Eagle Scout sons), marching band competitions, and sporting events. Barb loved watching professional sports and it wasn’t uncommon for her to loudly voice her displeasure with an official missing a call that worked against the Boston teams! In retirement, the couple traveled more often - taking extended trips to Florida, cruises to Bermuda, and fulfilling Barb’s dream trip of seeing Sweden in person. They loved spending time with their grandchildren, taking in nature’s wonders, and being entertained by their “feline children” over the years. Barbara is survived by 7 children: Stephen Reynolds, David Reynolds (and his wife Janice), Cynthia O’Neill, Patricia Chalifour (and her husband Alvah), Douglas Reynolds (and his wife Carol), Janice Cassola (and her husband Phillip), and Jeff Reynolds (and his wife Paula); all of Beverly. She was a proud grandmother of 14: Jill (Chagnon), Andrew, Alvah and Thomas (Drahman) Chalifour; Jennifer (Stacey) and Kristen (Hardin) Reynolds; Robert O’Neill; Jonathan, Matthew and Benjamin Cassola; Nicole and Michael Reynolds; Kevin and Natalie Reynolds; and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a large extended family, including her sister-in-law, Evelyn (Reynolds) Moser of Holland, MI. Barb was predeceased by her husband Chuck, their son Andrew and granddaughter Jamie. Visiting Hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of New England ( - 650 Suffolk St 405, Lowell, MA 01854) ) to assist those that cope with the condition that took her son Andy and granddaughter Jamie - or the Northeast Animal Shelter ( - 347 Highland Avenue Salem, MA 01970) to help find homes for kitties that are not as fortunate as her beloved Siamese kitty Luci Lu.
