Betty Irene Dougherty, 95, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 11:52 a.m. at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, IA. She was born on June 21, 1926 in Primrose, IA to Arnold & Carmel Bentzinger. She married Robert Victor Dougherty on June 17, 1951 in Donnellson, IA. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2012. She was a homemaker most of her life and a member of the First Christian Church and the Women’s Fellowship Executive Board. She was a former member of King’s Daughters & Sons and enjoyed gardening, flowers and attending the Army Air Corps Reunions with her husband. Betty is survived by: 1-son: Robert Mark (Debra) Dougherty of Urbandale, IA; 1-step grandson: Nathan (Dr. Rachel) Matta of Waukee, IA; 1-step great granddaughter: Mariel Matta of Waukee, IA; 1-sister: Shirley Mulligan of Bird Island, MN; 4-nieces & 2-nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband & 1-sister: Nadine Lindner. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church and may be sent directly to them at: First Christian Church, 608 10th Street, Fort Madison, IA 52627.
