Janice Grimsley Avant, of Coward, 73, wife of the late Roger Dale Avant, died Thursday, January 20, 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee.

Mrs. Avant was born on February 11, 1948, in Florence County, daughter of the late Hubert Linwood Grimsley and Runette Smith Grimsley. Janice was a retired professional seamstress and worked with the disabilities and special needs. She was a member of the Grace and Glory Ministries. Janice loved flowers, traveling to the mountains, and was a huge “Elvis” fan. Janice was a loving, kind and gracious person, who loved her family and God.

Surviving are her daughter, Sharon (Francisco) Villanueva; son, Richard Avant; grandchildren, Jessica Avant, Ryan (Stephanie) Avant, Rocky Avant and Gaston Villanueva; great grandchildren, Kaylie Avant, Khloe Avant, Bryelle Lee, Elizabeth Lee and BrynElease Lee; brothers, Walter “Binky” (Rachel) Grimsley, Terry (Teresa) Grimsley; long time friend, Sharon Tanner; and a number of nieces and nephews; and a special furry friend, Chance.  

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Mossy Grove Cemetery, Coward.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
