Betty Lou Fulmer Obituary

Lexington-Betty Lou Swindler Fulmer, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 17, 2022.  A Celebration of Life service will be held on 3:00 pm Sunday, January 23, 2022, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lexington. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service in the Parish Life Center.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   Memorials can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church - Loving Group, 1130 St. Peter’s Rd, Lexington, SC 29072. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.

Betty Lou was born July 29, 1930, in Columbia, SC where she helped her family on their dairy farm, Hillcrest Dairy.  She was the daughter of the late James Oakman Swindler and Pearl Martin Swindler. When she married Berly Fulmer in the summer of 1948, she became a homemaker taking care of her family and her neighbors – which is everyone but yourself.

Betty Lou was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, youth leader and member of the Loving Group, service committee and ladies’ circles.  She had a passion for feeding the hungry which led her to being a founding member with LICS (aka Mission Lexington).  Betty Lou and Berly were instrumental in founding the Lake Murray Fire Department and they continued to support it for 40 years.  She was a long-time member of the Lake Murray Community Center, The Clemson Home Extension, and The Round Hill Singers.  Betty Lou remained active all her life and loved to bowl (Tuesday Tumblers, Ellie’s Girls and St. Peter’s) and play softball (Gilbert Church league, Methodist Ball Park league).  She was known as “Mama Betty Lou” by many and loved dearly.  She will be missed, but we know she is with her Lord and her beloved husband and all those that have gone before.  What a testament her 91 years has been.  John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

She is survived by 63 of her loving family members – daughters, Pat Fulmer Carr (Ray), Bobbi Fulmer Buff, Jackie Fulmer Jumper, and Cindy Fulmer Evans (Steve); sons, Gene Fulmer Jr. (Theresa) and David Fulmer (Leigha);  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Harry Swindler and Ronnie Swindler (Vie).   She was affectionately known to her family as Mama, Grandma, Nanny, Grandma Betty Lou and Great-Great.

She was predeceased by her husband, Berly Eugene Fulmer Sr.; and sisters, June Swindler Rials and Addie Mae Swindler Jones.
