JoAnn Johnson Obituary

JoAnn Johnson (nee Bruneau), 89, of Plymouth WI was welcomed to the Lord’s arms on January 16, 2022. She was born on October 18, 1932 in Goodman, WI, a daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice (nee Bousley) Bruneau. JoAnn attended schools In Herbster and Port Wing, WI graduating from South Shore High School in 1950. In 1952, she married the late Albert Bruce and together they had four children. On January 15, 1967 she married James L. Johnson sharing 55 years of marriage, and together they had two children. Mom was very proud that she served her country in the Army from 1950 - 1952 as a surgical technician. She was a long-term member of the local VFW serving as an officer for a brief time. She held various jobs including running the Youth Center and Plymouth City Park concession stand in the 70’s. After seeing her children through school she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, graduating at the top of her class as an LPN when she was 50 years old. She treasured her nursing jobs at Valley View Hospital, Rocky Knoll, Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, and the Sheboygan Clinic until she retired to help raise her grandchildren. Mom enjoyed traveling with her favorite destination being Vienna, Austria. She was an avid camper. They would often camp for weeks at a time with family and friends hitting some of the best country music festivals. While at home she enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, quilting, and spending time with her loving family. She was a gifted artisan and taught ceramic classes for quite a few years. She was the favorite “Auntie” of many nieces and nephews. Her children were most important and she would often drop everything if any one of them needed her. She is survived by her husband, Jim, aka “Honey”, three daughters, Debra Bruce of Phoenix, AZ, Janeen (Butch) Cain of Plymouth, Janell Kohls and significant other, John Specht, of Port Washington and two sons, Thomas (Christi) Bruce of Clintonville WI, and Donald (Gale) Bruce of Mesa, AZ. Grandchildren, Jason, Jeff, and Timothy (Bethany) Bruce, Wesley Bruce, Zackary and Joa Cain, Brittney (Jim) Fanslau, Logan Breitzman, and Noah DeSmidt. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and dear friends. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Michael Bruce, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion & Dave Nelson, Alice & Leo Wilson, Marlene Murphy, and Corrine & Lloyd Richart, and two brothers and sister-in-law, Alvin & Jean Bruneau, and Russell Bruneau. A memorial service will be held on May 8th, 2022 (Sunday) at 3:30 PM at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. For anyone that can’t attend the service there will be a time for food and fellowship following the service at 4:00 PM. Father Philip Reifenberg, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in JoAnn’s name.
