Robert (Bob) Marcus Chamberlain, retired Colonel, United States Air Force, died peacefully at age 92, in his sleep on January 6, 2022. Bob was the eldest son of Marcus Freeman Chamberlain and Sarah (Stephenson) Chamberlain of Jaffrey, NH. He attended Jaffrey schools and graduated from Conant High School in 1948. He is also a 1952 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Bob was awarded a bachelor’s degree in zoology and commissioned a Second Lieutenant from the United States Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. His first assignment was to get a master's degree in weather forecasting at the University of New Mexico, where he met and married his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Sanders. Over the next thirty years they resided in Europe, Asia, and the United States. When Bob achieved his present rank of Colonel, he became the Director of Operations of the United States Air Force Air Weather Service. He is the honored recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit with four oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four battle stars, Chinese Nationalist Air Force Wings, Master Weather Badge, and Parachute Badge. Robert is also Bob retired to Jaffrey, NH in December of 1979, where he built a passive solar home. He was elected Selectman and served for six years. During that time, he helped reorganize and computerize the Town Office, upgrade and extended the town's water and sewer systems, and enlarged and air conditioned the town library. Bob also assisted with obtaining state funding for the completed first phase of the Jaffrey Route 202 thru-pass. During the following years Bob and Mary Louise traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Africa, Europe, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Norway, Finland, Russia, England, Ireland, Costa Rica and Burma. They moved to Camarillo, CA in 2018 to be near their daughter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Sarah Chamberlain, daughter, Charlotte Anne Chamberlain, and his brother, William Chamberlain. Robert leaves his wife, Mary Louise Chamberlain of Jaffrey, NH, his son, Mark and Debbie Chamberlain of Hamburg, NY, his daughter, Kathleen and Ivan Matsumori of Camarillo, CA, and his grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan and Connor and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mountain View Bible Church, 81 Page Road Dublin, NH 03444, https://mtnviewbible.org Services will be held on a later date at which time his ashes will be laid to rest in Conant Cemetery located in Jaffrey, NH.
