Mr. Joseph Thompson Obituary

Mr. Joseph “Sapp” Thompson, Sr. was born on October 16, 1942, in Richland County, South Carolina to the late Joseph and Mary Lou Thompson. On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, he passed away peacefully at his home. Joseph was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Hopkins, South Carolina.

Joseph worked for many years in Wisconsin at Milwaukee Gray Iron and retired in 2005. After retirement, he moved back home to South Carolina to be with his family. Joseph loved his family and never missed an opportunity to gather with them. He loved music, especially old-school R&B and Gospel. He also enjoyed watching television and whenever you visited his home, he would have both the radio and television on together. 

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Thompson and Willie Thompson; one sister, Lucille Thompson-Boyd; three nieces, Pamela Stroy, Tiffany Thompson, and Robin Thompson; and one great-nephew, David Outing. 

Joseph leaves to cherish his precious memories his two sons, Corey Terell Thompson of Columbia, SC and Joseph Thompson, Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; one daughter, Saundra Robinson of Milwaukee, WI; three sisters, Carolyn Thompson, Diane Thompson, and Patrice Hope all of Columbia, SC; seven brothers, John (Trena) Thompson, David Thompson, James Thompson, Allen Thompson, Danny (Sandra) Thompson, Kent (Latasha) Thompson, and Bobby (Herlinda) Thompson all of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, Malachi Thompson, Destiny Thompson, Dejanay Thompson, Ijanay Thompson, Raijanay Thompson, Briona Durrett, and Brittany Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Madysen Moore, and Makenzie Moore; a special cousin, Viola Etheridge; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends who will truly miss him.
