<p>Carl Francis Washington, of Newport News, Virginia, earned his heavenly wings on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at home.&nbsp; He was born in Dixie Hospital, Hampton, Virginia, on September 14, 1950, the second son of Helen E. and Russell D. Washington&nbsp;Sr.</p> <p>Carl joined Grafton Baptist Church-Harris Grove at an early age and attended regularly until his health declined.&nbsp; He attended Sunday School regularly and sang in the Men&rsquo;s Choir, but his most proud moment was being ordained as a Deacon in 2010.</p> <p>Carl attended James Weldon Johnson in Yorktown and graduated from York High School during integration in 1968.&nbsp; He later attended and graduated from Kee Business College.</p> <p>A hard worker, Carl held numerous jobs in his lifetime. He worked at NASA and acquired electrician skills.&nbsp; He worked for years as a Manager in the Electronics Department at the former Kmart store on Warwick Boulevard, Newport News.&nbsp; He retired in 2018 as Head Custodian from York County Public Schools after 14 years of service.</p> <p>Carl had a strong love for family and friends.&nbsp; He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back. He was a faithful and loyal fan of the Washington Football Team and&nbsp;was also fond of games, particularly cards, and had a love for&nbsp;and was a master chess player.&nbsp;&nbsp;He holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.</p> <p>He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Russell Washington; in-laws, Jewelene and Wendell Bolton; and infant son, Brandon.</p> <p>Left to cherish Carl&rsquo;s memory is his loving wife of 36 years, Denise F. Bolton; a devoted daughter, Paige N. Washington of Newport News; two sons, Carl Lamont Washington (Lois) of Fredericksburg&nbsp;and Ryan Wendell Hornsby of Kansas City, Missouri; loving granddaughters, Alena, Trinity, Naomi, and Sarah; two grandsons, Ryan Jr. and David; one sister, Mabel Washington Jenkins (Keith) of Newport News; four brothers, Russell D. Washington, Jr. (Elaine) of Yorktown,&nbsp;Lynwood Y. Washington, Sr. (Gloria) of Portsmouth,&nbsp;Kriss B. Washington&nbsp;of Yorktown,&nbsp;and Burnett A. Washington of Lorton; a special aunt, Beatrice Carter of Yorktown; numerous nieces and nephews;&nbsp;a devoted friend, Leon Hall of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and a host of other loving family members and friends.</p> <p>Services for Mr. Washington will be held at noon, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Grafton Baptist Church Harris Grove. Mr. Washington may be viewed beginning at 11:30 am until the hour of his service in the church. Carl Francis Washington, of Newport News, Virginia, earned his heavenly wings on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at home.  He was born in Dixie Hospital, Hampton, Virginia, on September 14, 1950, the second son of Helen E. and Russell D. Washington Sr.

Carl joined Grafton Baptist Church-Harris Grove at an early age and attended regularly until his health declined.  He attended Sunday School regularly and sang in the Men’s Choir, but his most proud moment was being ordained as a Deacon in 2010.
