Everett Thomas Anderson Obituary

Everett Thomas Anderson was born in Gloucester, Virginia on August 8, 1933, to the late Carter Anderson and Sarah Elizabeth Whiting. In the evening of January 13, 2022, Everett peacefully transitioned to eternal rest at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and beloved sister, Shirley Elizabeth Billups.

Everett received his elementary school education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His high school years were spent in Virginia, where he graduated from Central High School in King and Queen County. Afterward, he ventured north to further his education in New York. In 1952, Everett was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for four years, receiving an honorable discharge.

In 1959, Everett met his future wife, Lestine Robinson of Warrenton, North Carolina. On June 5, 1960, Everett and Lestine were joined in holy matrimony in Jamaica, New York. From their marriage, they were blessed with two daughters, Crystal and Sherry.

At an early age, Everett accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at Bethel Baptist Church in Gloucester, Virginia. He continued his relationship with God and lead his family in faith throughout his life. In 1974, Everett and his family joined Hollywood Baptist Church of Christ in Amityville, NY under the leadership of the late Rev. Andy C. Lewter Sr. Throughout his service to the Lord, he served as the “Blue Bird” bus driver for ministry events, Chairman of the Deacon Board and Chairman of the Trustees. Everett and his family developed long-lasting relationships at Hollywood Baptist that have kept them eternally connected.

Everett was employed by the New York City Transit Authority faithfully working for 36 years as a bus driver, dispatcher, and instructor. In his role as an instructor, he was instrumental in training and mentoring newly employed bus drivers for the city of New York. Following his love of baseball, Everett played for the NYC Transit Authority baseball team and coached in the Springfield Gardens Little League.

Once relocated to Williamsburg, VA, Everett and his wife joined First Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Diaconate Ministry and Men’s Fellowship until his health declined. In his retirement, Everett greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. Every dance recital, concert, play, or sporting event his grandchildren were in, he was there. His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy. Anything in the world they wanted, their Papa was ready to provide.

Although Everett departed this world, he will never be forgotten. His memories will continue to live in the hearts of his family and friends. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Lestine Robinson Anderson; two daughters, Crystal Yvette Whitehead (Ronnie) and Sherry Anderson Jones (Carlos), both of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren, Christopher Antwoine Jones (Shay), Kimberly Nicole Whitehead, Camille Alysse Jones and Richard Ronald Whitehead Jr “RJ”; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends.

A service to celebrate Everett's life will be held at noon Friday, January 21, 2022, at Kingdom Life Christian Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment with military honors to follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.  Mr. Anderson may be viewed on Friday in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service.  Facial coverings are required for all services.
