Andrew G. Vitko, age 80, of Johnstown, PA, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 16, 2022, in the Palliative Care Unit of Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown, PA. He was born at home on March 4, 1941, and was the son of the late Katherine M (Barrese) Vitko. He married Carol M. Bruce on November 24, 1962, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Johnstown, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother, stepfather, William Bisch, brother Thomas (Diane), and brother-in-law John Weimann. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years; sons Todd (Robin) Vitko of Weston, FL, David (Julie) Vitko of Altoona, PA, and Chris (Heather) Vitko of Windber, PA; ten grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Natalie, Daniella, Krysten, Chad, Joshua, Zachary, Sydney, and Cameron, and eight great-grandchildren: Westley, Isabella, Ethan, Julian, Leah, Alivia, Wyatt, and Levi; sister Lois Weimann of Gambillis, MD, brother Allen (Lois) of Levittown, PA, and sister-in-law Joan Vitko, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew was a 1959 graduate of Johnstown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy stationed at the Oceana Air Base in Virginia Beach, VA serving aboard the USS Independence (CV-62) with Fighter Squad 84. He retired as a Supervisor from Bethlehem Steel Corporation and Johnstown Wire Technologies after 37 years of Service. Andrew was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge 175, and the Windber Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and helping his sons with various projects. Andy was an avid golfer and enjoyed many memorable golf trips with friends and family throughout the years. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Conemaugh Hospital ICU and Palliative care. Andy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received from 3-7 Wednesday, January 19th at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave, Johnstown. The funeral service will be held at 11:00, Thursday, January 20th at Oakland United Methodist Church.
