Vernon Eugene Allen, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in his home with his wife by his side.

He served his country in the United States Navy with distinction and great pride for twenty years. He worked for Civil Service for twenty-two years.

Being raised in a Christian home, he accepted Christ in his life at an early age and joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.  On October 22,1972, he joined hands in fellowship with St. John Baptist Church where he remained a supportive and faithful member. He served on the Food Bank Ministry and the Usher Board for many years.

During his years of military service, he also found his love of travel. Together with his wife, they discovered new destinations all around the country. Always ready to go, he kept his camera close by and documented his journey.  While Vernon loved travel, his most rewarding moments were at home, taking care of his well manicured yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell and Isabell Allen.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Anne J. Allen; sons, Kevin M. Allen (Gloria) and Keith M. Allen; four grandchildren, Kevin Jr., Keshaun, Kadesha and Nelson Allen, six great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Allen; love daughters, Patricia Byrd and Mable Wynne; love son, Reverend David Spratley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment with military honors to follow in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Allen may be viewed on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
