Edith Elnora Ritchie Obituary

Ritchie, Edith Elnora- age 91, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on January 12, 2022. Born in Scott's Bay, Nova Scotia, on December 7, 1930, she was a daughter to the late James "Wylie" and Clara Leota (Tupper) Dykens. Edith was a wonderful mother who loved her family dearly. She worked as a bookkeeper for Thompson's Transfer for many years. Having a firm faith in the Lord she attended Lake George Baptist Church. In her spare time, she loved to sew and knit, making many outfits over the years for her girls, hundreds of socks, and many blankets for the great-grandkids! She was well-read and especially enjoyed reading Christian books. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Kenneth "Bud" Ritchie Sr; daughters, Darla (Rick) Wood, Port Williams; JoAnne (Ivan) MacDonald, Brenton; Lorraine (Ron) Oxner, Brenton; sons, Dale (Peggy) Brown, Scott's Bay; Alton (Rebecca) Brown, Ellershouse; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and besides her parents was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest Brown; daughter Janet in infancy; brothers, Theodore, Leslie, Dexter, and Arthur; sisters, Dorothy (Huntley), Leora (Carey), Cora (Barkhouse). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A funeral service will take place at Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, January 16, 2022, at 2 P.M., with Rev. Evan Oxner officiating. Interment will take place in the spring of 2022 in Scott's Bay Cemetery. Due to covid-19 restrictions, the service is limited to 50 people, and the family will be given priority seating. The service will be live-streamed on Sweeny's Funeral Home homepage. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Childhood Cancer Canada.
