Eldred Donald Warfield

Eldred Donald Warfield (Donald), 99, of Woodbine, MD, died Sunday, January 9, 2022 at his home in Woodbine.<br>Born September 21, 1922, in the same home where he left this life, he was the son of Bernard Dalrymple Warfield and Josephine D’Unger Warfield. As one of ten children, he was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters and is survived by two sisters: Marie Warmenhoven and Barbara Feaga.<br>He is also survived by a son, Donald B. Warfield and his wife, Deborah Clarke; a daughter, Joan Carney and her husband, Robert. He was the loving grandfather to two granddaughters, Tonnie Kate Warfield and Bibiane Warfield Kanzler, her husband Kristopher; and two grandsons, Timothy Tyrus Carney and Patrick Breckenridge Carney. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Renzo, Timber, and Marley Kanzler, as well as a step-great-grandson, Jackson Kanzler. His loving kindness touched the lives of many nieces and nephews.<br>A graduate of Lisbon High School, Donald pursued a number of professional paths. Having been born on the farm, much of his working life was spent with its operation. However, a changing economy led to changes in his career path. He installed and serviced dairy equipment and its associated vacuum and refrigeration systems at A.E. Kaestner and at Gaithersburg Farmer’s Supply. He then moved on to the facilities departments at Montgomery County General Hospital and later, Baltimore County General Hospital (now Northwest Hospital).<br>In 1945, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served proudly in Japan in the 1st Radio Squadron Mobile until 1947. For his service he received the Army of Occupation World War II Victory Medal.<br>He had a positive impact on his community and, at the time of his death, he was the oldest lifetime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, where he was, for many years, in charge of the cemetery and active in many annual parish events. He was instrumental in helping to establish the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department as a founding member, and for many years, he was a popular figure at the Howard County Fair where he participated in planning and coordinating the many exhibits and activities. His talent for woodworking earned him many awards at the fair and provided exquisite pieces of custom-made furniture for friends and family. <br>His life was filled with family-oriented activities which included traveling and cruises with his wife and other friends, as well as summer vacations at the family beach house in Duck, North Carolina. Donald was a favorite uncle of many of his nieces and nephews and was often seen holding and consoling some of the youngest family members at the numerous gatherings of his large extended family. His pride in his farm was reflected in the time and energy he put in to restoring the historic family home, keeping the lawn well-manicured and the overall appearance of the property and buildings. <br>Donald will always be remembered by friends, family, and neighbors as a true gentleman with a kind heart and a generous nature.<br>A funeral mass and memorial service will be Held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St Michael Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, MD.<br>1125 St. Michael's Road<br>Mount Airy, MD 21771<br><br> Inurnment St. Michael's Cemetery. <br>Donations in his memory may be made to the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company,, PO Box 40 Lisbon, MD 21765 .
