Rowena Ione Motley Kohl, age 91, of Vandalia, MO, passed away on January 4, 2022. She was born November 17, 1930, on the family farm in Vandalia, MO. She married L.E. Kohl on August 16, 1953, and he survives in their home. Rowena was a vibrant, hard-working woman who radiated positivity and lived to help her family, friends, and community. She started her career as a bookkeeper then poured her boundless energy into raising her five kids and running the family farm with L.E. She was a horsemanship leader in the local 4-H club and mentored hundreds of area youth. At the age of 57, Rowena transitioned to a successful 20-year career selling real estate in Michigan before returning to her beloved Vandalia. Her retirement years were equally active playing with her kids and grandkids, water-skiing, horseback riding, playing cards, and supporting civic organizations including Vandalia Historical Society and LaFemme Arts, as well as the Vandalia United Methodist Church. Rowena was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ruby Motley, and her ten siblings: Ramona, Roger, an infant daughter, Robert, Rheva, Regina, Reginald, Rudolph, Ruth, and Ronald. Her surviving family includes L.E., her husband of 68 years, Johnny (Debbie) Kohl of Columbia, MO, Annette Kohl of Vandalia, MO, Elaine (Rick) Jackson of Galatia, IL, Kim (Devon) Daniels of Auxvasse, MO, Mark (Peggy) Kohl of Kirkwood, MO, 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. She touched the lives of countless individuals and will be missed by all. A private family burial service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022, with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. Arrangments are under the direciton of Bienhoff Funeral Home.
